![]() Race For The Galaxy - This is another game where players choose their actions simultaneously, which speeds things along. It's a bit more complex than Catan but not dramatically so. Players all take their turns simultaneously, which does wonders (as it were) to speed things up. The main thing I find Cities and Knights adds is about an hour to the playtime.įor other games that play quickly with a fair number of folks I'll second some suggestions here:ħ Wonders - A civilization building game that scales up to 7 players with the base set and, once everyone has the rules down, can be played in under an hour. If you wanted to add an expansion, Seafarers is the most straight-forward, while also mixing things up nicely. I think Catan works wonderfully with 4 people but gets somewhat slow with more than that. I'm not sure this is much faster than simply looking at the components list and sorting those out as needed, but it's an option!Īll that said, like other folks here I find the 5-6 player version of Catan to be a bit of a slog. When you're done with the game, flip all the tiles over and sort out into piles like so. If you're looking to separate out the Catan 5-6 player expansion quickly, you can take the tiles and the numbered discs, flip them over, and just write 6 on the back. ![]() Just keep a list in the box and it'll be fine. Also looks like a sheep port and a 3:1 port. The numbered discs are completely separate, so you just need to have two baggies, one with the 3-4 player discs and one with the 5-6 player discs. You remove one desert and two of every kind of production hex, six knights and one of every non-VP development card, and five of every resource (if you even care about limiting those they generally don't run out in my experience). I don't think they're marked, but I wouldn't call the process painful either. Between Two Cities is also good, simple but fun, and goes up to seven. 7 Wonders is a great recommendation for a game that can play 6 without becoming a slog (plus if you love it it has its own set of a zillion expansions). But yeah, like others are saying: before you get too deep into the Catanverse, I'd recommend branching out. Especially if you want to be able to do Cities and Knights with 5-6 players, 'cause now you also need the separate C&K 5-6 expo. Now, if you want to also expand the game with things like Cities and Knights, then things can get hairy. Click to shrink.I don't think they're marked, but I wouldn't call the process painful either.
